AGP

AGP stands for Advance Graphic Port and it is special slot on motherboard for graphic cards. It runs twice the speed of original AGP in the standard new PC’s and it is being replaced by PCI express.

Optical Devices

Optical mouse is good example of optical device which controls the movement of the cursor on the screen. The movement of the cursor is detected by laser. There should be special mat with the grid of the optical mouse so that frame of reference is provided for optical mechanism. The response of these mousses is quick and precise as compared to the mechanical and optomechanical mice.

Mechanical mouse has rubber or metal ball which can roll in all direction. The direction of the rolling ball is detected by mechanical sensors which move on the screen pointer accordingly. Optopmechanical mouse is same as that of mechanical mouse it uses optical sensor to detect motion.

Pointing Devices

You can control the movement of the pointer on the selected items with the help of pointing devices. Trackballs, mouse buttons and joysticks are examples of these devices. Touchpad are used in most of laptops which is pressure sensitive pad. Joystick moves in all direction and controls movement of the pointer. It is very much like the mouse. The movement of the joystick is in the direction of pointer. These joysticks are mostly used in the computer games and computer aided programs like CAD/CAM.

Keyboard

It is much like of typewriter through which you can imputer data. There are functions keys, control, return and shift keys. There are also Page up, Page Down, Home, End, insert, scroll, break and print screen keys on the keyboards. There are different types of keyboards in Apple Macintosh which are called ADB keyboards. Standard keyboards and extended keyboards are the main two types of keyboards used in the Apple which included 15 additional function keys.

Graphics memory

There are good graphic memories in the desktop computers as compared to laptops. You should look for the laptops with complete specifications. There might not be dedicated video memory if there is shared memory in your laptop.

Processors

CPU is the nerve center of the computers which carries out all arithmetic and computing jobs. It is the most important part of the computers. There are one or more printed circuit boards on the CPU and there is single chip in the computers called microprocessor.

Arithmetic and logic unit is the component of the CPU which perform arithmetic and logical operations. The instructions from the memory are controlled by the control unit. Intel’s Pentium and AMD Athlon are the best known PC processors.
